The Oil City Fire Department is operated from two stations and
consists of seventeen members: one Chief, three Captains, three
Lieutenants, and nine full-time firefighters. Part-time firefighters
are also used as needed. Each crew consists of five members
with at least two trained as Paramedics.
The Oil City Fire Department maintains
a quick response rescue service for the citizens of our community.
This service provides Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support,
heavy rescue and extrication, as well as, River Rescue. Engine
#3 is the only ALS (Paramedic) equipped engine in Northwest
Pennsylvania.
In 2005, the Oil City Fire Department in cooperation
with the Region 2 Counter Terrorism Task Force (Erie, Crawford,
Venango, Warren, and Forest Counties) has partnered with the
Erie Fire Department to help form US&R Company #4 a branch
of Pennsylvania’s Urban Search & Rescue (US&R)
team. This involves many hours of additional training in the
use of specialized equipment and techniques for incidents
or deployments dealing with structural collapse rescue, confined
space rescue, trench rescue, and water rescue. These were
the types of teams that were initially sent to Mississippi
and Louisiana immediately following hurricane Katrina. With
assistance from the Task Force we have received a very generous
cache of specialized equipment that deals with US&R type
incidents.
In 2005 the Department responded to 193 fire
calls, 666 public service calls, and 1550 EMS calls. 28% of
the EMS calls required Advanced Life Support care.
